Mountain gorillas are endangered – there are only an estimated 1,000+ in the wild. The main threat to mountain gorillas is the degradation of their habitat. As the region’s population grows, the land is increasingly converted for agriculture, and competition for limited natural resources inevitably leads to deforestation.

World gorilla day is an opportunity to empower global communities to take action for all 4 gorilla subspecies (mountain gorilla, cross river gorilla, western lowland gorilla, and grauer’s gorilla) and to fight for their conservation.

3 gorilla fun facts: we share 98% of our dna with gorillas. gorillas live in a social family unit called a troop or a band. female gorillas usually only give birth to 1 baby every 4-6 years.

Our “world gorilla day” candle transports you deep into the cradle of nature that is east-central africa. An established band of mountain gorillas reside in the dense forests on the lush slopes of the resource-rich virunga volcanoes (a region spanning 3 national parks in uganda, rwanda and democratic republic of congo). The troop wakes up just after sunrise to search for food, which occupies most of their day. The young juveniles are wrestling and playing silly games, hugging and tumbling with each other across the deep green forest floor. As night approaches and covers the sky above the canopy of tall trees, the mountain gorillas all gather together and fall into a deep sleep, tucked snugly into their nests of fertile green foliage.
